Located at 4100 Mundy Mill Road, the Mundy Mill community has started constructing their new sign and entrance monument. At over 30 feet tall, the mill wheel will encompass a large sign for Mundy Mill, but is also intended to represent what used to be an even larger part of this South Hall community.
In 1890 Andrew Jackson Mundy and his youngest son Erasmus Tomlin Mundy built a grist mill for this area of the county.
Four generations of Mundy’s owned and operated the mill. Although it is a fair bet to say that some fee was charged for grinding your grain, often times it was offered as more of a service to the community for those who could not afford to pay. People came to the Mill not just to have their corn and other grains ground but as a place where friends and family would congregate and exchange stories and family updates.
Over the years the Mill became a gathering place, a place for dating, getting engaged and even getting married. Churches even used the stream for baptizing. The best times however, were the family reunions and not just the Mundy family but any family nearby who wished to share in this special place.
The Mill is gone now but the memories remain. The Mundy Mill community is proud to build such a monumental community symbol to remind people of these great memories of times gone by.
